The Supreme Court of India is scheduled to hear a series of petitions questioning the validity of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 on April 16.

A three-judge bench led by the Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, along with Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice KV Viswanathan, will preside over the hearing. A total of nine petitions have been listed for the same day.

The petitions have been filed by various individuals and organizations, including AIMIM Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi, Delhi AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, Association for Protection of Civil Rights, President of Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind Arshad Madani, Samastha Kerala Jamiatul Ulema, Anjum Kadari, Taiyyab Khan Salmani, Mohammad Shafi, Mohammad Fazlurrahim, and RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha.

"The case titled Asaduddin Owaisi vs Union of India W.P.(C) No. 269/2025 and other related matters will be taken up together by the apex court."

The Waqf Amendment Act was passed by the Parliament on April 4, and it received the President's assent on April 5. Following this, the Central Government issued a notification bringing the Act into effect from April 8.

"The Supreme Court’s decision to take up these petitions reflects the significance and public interest surrounding the amendments made to the Waqf laws."
