Supreme Court to Hear Tamil Nadu ADGP Jayaram’s Plea Against HC Arrest Order

The Madras High Court’s directive to arrest HM Jayaram came while hearing the anticipatory bail plea of KV Kuppam MLA “Poovai” Jagan Moorthy. The case was registered by Thiruvallur Police based on a complaint by one Lakshmi.

According to Lakshmi, her elder son had married a girl without the consent of the girl’s family. Following this, the girl’s family, along with some unidentified men, allegedly entered her home in search of the couple. As the couple had gone into hiding, her younger son, aged 18, was allegedly abducted by the miscreants.

Lakshmi further alleged that her younger son was later found near a hotel with injuries and that he was dropped off in the official vehicle of the ADGP.

“It has also been alleged that the MLA conspired in the entire incident,” the complaint stated.

Justice P Velmurugan of the Madras High Court, while hearing the bail plea, directed the police to proceed with action against ADGP HM Jayaram in accordance with the law.

“Being a public servant, he is answerable to the public. A strong message should go out that no one is above the law,” the court observed.

Following this direction, HM Jayaram was taken into custody on Monday.

Now, the ADGP has moved the Supreme Court seeking relief from the High Court’s arrest order, asserting that due process and legal safeguards must be followed in the investigation.
