MP High Court Permits NEET UG Result Declaration Across India, Except 11 Indore Centres

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has allowed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to declare the NEET UG 2025 results across the country, excluding 11 examination centres in Indore that experienced a power outage during the exam. This decision was taken to ensure that students from unaffected regions do not face delays in their academic journey.

The court's initial order on May 15, 2025, had put a temporary stay on the NEET UG result announcement due to concerns raised about irregularities at some centres. The stay was issued after no legal representative appeared on behalf of the Centre during the earlier hearing.

“On due consideration this Court finds force in the submissions... the respondents may be allowed to declare the results for all the other centres in India, except the affected centres at Indore,” observed Justice Subodh Abhyankar in the revised order.

The petition was filed by a NEET aspirant who appeared for the exam in 2025. The plea raised serious concerns about the mismanagement at the Ilva Higher Secondary School in Indore, one of the examination centres. It was alleged that due to lack of power backup, students were forced to write the crucial exam in candlelight or with emergency lamps for nearly 1 to 2 hours, significantly affecting their performance.

During the May 16 hearing, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta requested the Court to revise its earlier order. He stated that the issue was restricted to 11 centres in Indore and urged the Court to permit result declaration for the rest of the country.

“The problem faced was limited to eleven odd centres in Indore. Therefore, results should be declared for other unaffected centres,” Mehta submitted.

He also assured the Court that a detailed response, including a list of the affected centres, would be filed within two days.

On the other hand, the petitioner’s counsel argued that if students are unable to receive their results on time, it would impact their eligibility for counselling and future academic processes.

Despite these concerns, the Court acknowledged the limited scope of the issue and allowed the results to be released nationwide, except for the 11 Indore centres under scrutiny.

“The declaration of results for unaffected centres must not be delayed due to isolated incidents,” the Court emphasized.

The Court's direction ensures that lakhs of NEET UG candidates from other regions can move forward without unnecessary delay, while still addressing the concerns of students from Indore whose exams were disrupted.

The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on May 19, 2025
