A major nationwide campaign called “Mediation for the Nation” will be launched from July 1 to September 30, 2025, aimed at resolving pending court cases through mediation. The initiative has been jointly developed by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant, who also head both the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC).

This 90-day campaign aims to promote mediation as a preferred, amicable dispute resolution method that is not only time-efficient but also helps preserve relationships. It will cover courts from Taluka Courts to High Courts, taking mediation to every corner of the country.

During this period, a wide range of cases will be considered for mediation, including:
- Marital disputes
- Accident and insurance claims
- Domestic violence cases
- Cheque bounce cases
- Commercial and consumer disputes
- Service-related disputes
- Negotiable criminal cases
- Partition suits, land acquisition issues and eviction cases
From July 1 to July 31, 2025, the courts will list eligible cases under the heading “for referral to special mediation drive”. If a case shows potential for settlement, it will be referred for mediation.

“This special All India Mediation Campaign will commence from 1.7.2025 and will continue till 30.9.2025. It aims to settle eligible cases pending in the courts and take mediation to every corner of the country,” - Press Release
The process includes:
- Identifying eligible cases
- Informing the parties involved
- Referring cases to certified mediators
The mediators involved will include both experienced professionals and newly trained individuals who have completed the mandatory 40 hours of mediation training. To ensure accessibility and flexibility, mediation will be conducted physically, online or in hybrid mode depending on the convenience of the parties.

“The campaign will involve mediation settlement efforts on all 7 days of the week… Taluka or District Legal Services Authority will facilitate online mediation.”
Regular updates on the number of cases referred and resolved will be submitted on specific dates: August 4, 11, 18, 25 and September 1, 8, 15 and 22, 2025. A final report will be compiled and submitted to the MCPC by October 6, 2025.
The Mediation Monitoring Committee of each High Court will oversee the Abhiyaan in its respective jurisdiction. Additionally, mediators may consult counsellors or subject matter experts if required.
To evaluate the success of the Abhiyaan, a detailed study will be conducted by the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal in partnership with selected National Law Universities, focusing on its impact, effectiveness and learnings.
