In a significant move, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of new Chief Justices for five High Courts across India. This decision was made to fill upcoming vacancies and ensure smooth judicial functioning.
The Collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, who is currently a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court (with his parent High Court being Delhi High Court), as the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Further, Justice Vibhu Bakhru, serving as a Delhi High Court Judge, has been recommended to be the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
Another significant recommendation is for Justice Ashutosh Kumar of Patna High Court to be appointed as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.
In addition, Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, also from Patna High Court (with parent High Court being Gujarat High Court), is proposed to become the Chief Justice of Patna High Court.

The Collegium has also recommended Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, a Himachal Pradesh High Court Judge, to be elevated as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
Meanwhile, the current Chief Justices of Karnataka and Gauhati High Courts, Justice NV Anjaria and Justice Vijay Bishnoi, have been recommended for elevation to the Supreme Court.
"The Collegium has considered and found them suitable for elevation to the Supreme Court," the Supreme Court stated.
These recommendations reflect the Collegium's efforts to ensure balanced judicial administration across High Courts and to promote experienced judges to higher positions. The appointments will now be sent to the President of India for approval, following the constitutional procedure.

This move signifies a shift in the leadership of several High Courts and adds to the expected appointments to the Supreme Court.
"The transfer and elevation of judges ensure the smooth functioning of courts and maintain judicial standards," the Court highlighted.
