The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday formally dissolved the marriage between Karisma Panigrahi and Himanshu Kumar Jaiswal, bringing an end to their legal battle that had reached the country’s highest court. The decision came after both sides confirmed a complete settlement of disputes.

Background of the Case

The matter arose from Transfer Petition (Civil) No. 824 of 2025, filed by Karisma Panigrahi. Multiple matrimonial cases were pending between the parties across different courts, including proceedings under the Hindu Marriage Act.

During the hearing, both sides jointly informed the court that they had resolved all disputes amicably through a settlement dated January 10, 2026.

Court’s Observation

A Bench of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Augustine George Masih noted the efforts taken by the parties and the mediator in resolving the dispute.

“The disputes and differences between the parties have been amicably resolved,” the bench observed, appreciating the mediation process that led to the settlement.

The court also recorded that the husband had agreed to pay ₹23 lakh as a full and final settlement covering maintenance, permanent alimony, stridhan, and all claims concerning the wife and minor child.

Final Decision

Allowing the joint application, the Supreme Court dissolved the marriage solemnised on December 11, 2021, by mutual consent. The bench ordered that:

  • All pending cases between the parties stand closed
  • The settlement agreement will be binding on both sides
  • Any breach of terms may invite contempt proceedings
  • Concerned courts must formally close related cases

With this, the transfer petition and all connected applications were disposed of.
