The Supreme Court of India on Friday disposed of a criminal special leave petition after recording an undertaking by the petitioner to clear the remaining dues of ₹16 lakh within four weeks.
The matter arose from a dispute between Shyuvraj and K. Hemachandra, stemming from an order of the Karnataka High Court. When the case was taken up, counsel for the petitioner informed the Bench that most of the amount had already been paid and only ₹16 lakh remained outstanding. However, the time earlier granted for payment had expired.

Seeking indulgence, the petitioner asked for additional time. On a specific query from the court regarding the period required, counsel requested four more weeks. The Bench, comprising Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice R. Mahadevan, found the request reasonable.
“The prayer appears fair in the facts placed before us,” the court observed while granting the extension.
Disposing of the petition, the court directed the petitioner to pay the remaining ₹16 lakh to the complainant within four weeks from the date of the order. The Bench made it clear that the direction was issued on the basis of a self-undertaking given by the petitioner through counsel.
The court also issued a stern caution, stating that failure to comply would invite “strict penal consequences.”

Additionally, the Bench clarified that if any part of the amount had already been deposited before a court but not yet reached the complainant, the respondent would be entitled to withdraw it along with any accrued interest. All pending applications were also disposed of.
