The Supreme Court of India has designated six former High Court judges as Senior Advocates. This honor is given to retired judges who continue practicing law after serving on the bench.
The judges awarded this designation are:
- Shri Ambadas Haribhau Joshi, Former Judge, High Court of Bombay
- Shri Chander Shekhar, Former Judge, High Court of Delhi
- Shri Cyril Thamarai Selvam, Former Judge, High Court of Madras
- Shri Prithviraj Keshavrao Chavan, Former Judge, High Court of Bombay
- Shri Rajbir Sehrawat, Former Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana
- Shri Raj Mohan Singh, Former Judge, High Court of Madhya Pradesh
The decision was made in a full court meeting held on April 1. The Senior Advocate designation is a prestigious recognition highlighting legal expertise and professional distinction.
One of the designated advocates, Shri Rajbir Sehrawat, was previously involved in a legal controversy. As a High Court judge, he made remarks that opposed a Supreme Court order, leading to judicial scrutiny.
"The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the statements and later reprimanded the judge for his remarks."
