Justice Alok Aradhe Appointed as Judge of the Supreme Court of India

Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, has been appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. The appointment was notified by the Ministry of Law and Justice on 27th August 2025 under Article 124(2) of the Constitution.

Justice Alok Aradhe Appointed as Judge of the Supreme Court of India

The President of India has appointed Justice Alok Aradhe, the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. The appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his new office.

The notification was issued on 27th August 2025 by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice, under the powers granted by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India.

The official Gazette notification stated:

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, to be a Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

The Ministry of Law and Justice has circulated the notification to all relevant authorities, including:

  • The Registrar General of the Bombay High Court
  • The Secretary to the Governor of Maharashtra and Goa
  • The Secretary to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Goa
  • The Secretary General of the Supreme Court of India
  • The President’s Secretariat, Rashtrapati Bhawan
  • The Prime Minister’s Office
  • Other key judicial and administrative offices

Article 124(2) of the Constitution empowers the President to appoint judges of the Supreme Court after consultation with other constitutional authorities. The latest appointment of Justice Aradhe is in line with this constitutional process.
