A woman Additional District Judge has moved the Supreme Court after her request for childcare leave was turned down.
During a hearing before a bench led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih, the counsel for the judge explained that she was a single parent who had applied for childcare leave from June to December. The leave was necessary because she was transferred to a new location during that time.

"She had sought child care leave because she was transferred to some other place, my lords, leaves she had sought from June 10-December," her lawyer informed the bench.
The Chief Justice questioned why her leave was rejected. The lawyer responded, "No reason my lords."
The court also noted that the Jharkhand High Court was the parent High Court for the judge. After hearing the arguments, the Supreme Court agreed to list the matter for hearing soon.
