The Madras High Court has granted bail to three family members accused in a tragic dowry death case in Tiruppur district. Justice Dr. G. Jayachandran, hearing the petitions, ordered the release of the husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law of the deceased woman, who had taken her life within two months of marriage.

Background of the Case

According to police records, the young bride allegedly left a voice message for her father before ending her life, naming her husband and his parents.

The case was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, which correspond to cruelty and abetment to suicide. The petitioners had been in judicial custody since late June and early July.

The intervention petition raised doubts about the line of investigation and the post-mortem findings. However, the judge noted that the voice message, treated as a suicide note, has been forwarded for forensic analysis to confirm its authenticity.

After examining the transcript of the recording, the court remarked that the deceased had endured mental cruelty. At the same time, Justice Jayachandran observed that continued confinement of the accused was unnecessary since the police had already recorded statements from key witnesses, including the Revenue Divisional Officer.

"The confinement of the petitioners in prison is not required at this stage," the court stated, while granting bail under strict conditions.

Bail Conditions and Implications

The accused were directed to execute a bond of ₹1 lakh each with two sureties. They must report daily before the Avinashi Judicial Magistrate, surrender their passports, and refrain from influencing witnesses. The court also warned that any breach would invite fresh action, even a new FIR.
