New Delhi, Nov. 24 - A brief but tense hearing unfolded in the Supreme Court on Monday as a petition linked to the Manipur violence finally reached the bench after procedural hurdles. Reporters in Court No. 1 sensed urgency, even though the exchange lasted just a few minutes.

The petition, filed by Vanrampani and others, had faced delays because of refiling defects - a common but frustrating procedural snag for litigants unfamiliar with the system. Their plea seeks updates regarding the ongoing investigation into the violence, currently handled by the National Investigation Agency.

The three-judge bench led by the Chief Justice didn’t mince words. “People deserve clarity, not silence,” one lawyer paraphrased the bench as saying outside courtroom corridors. Another attendee recalled, “The bench observed, ‘We need to know what progress has actually been made.’”

Ultimately, the Court condoned the delay, issued notice to the Union government and NIA specifically to find out the outcome of the ongoing investigation, and fixed January 12, 2026, as the returnable date. Dasti service was also permitted.
